Back to School Tips to Protect Your Identity

It’s that time again, school will be starting soon and summer vacation is winding down. Back to school could mean sharing a dorm-room or providing important documents for registration. Here are some tips to help protect yourself and your family:

  • Medical and immunization records carry identifying information on them. Make sure these documents are also kept in a safe place.
  • Keep your information safe, if you share a dorm room don’t leave loan applications and banking information in easily accessible locations. Keep all sensitive documents in locked files.
  • Don’t share account information, pin numbers or passwords with your friends at school. You never know who they will share that information with.
  • Enable privacy settings on social media. Don’t over share information such as current locations, addresses, phone numbers, mother’s maiden name, pet names or date of birth as these can give thieves the information they need to get in to your accounts.
